Bonded For
Life

Rakhis in Turin would be as alien as
friendship bands in Rae Bareli. When she first came to India, Sonia
Gandhi must have been amused to see the eternal bond between
brothers and sisters being celebrated with such fanfare. But now,
she’s an old India hand. So, come raksha bandhan and she is seen
tying rakhis to well-wisher brothers at 10 Janpath. Seen here with
Brij Mohan, a social worker. An extended fraternity awaits.

On The
Border

Would you dish out hard-earned money for
Meri Life Mein Uski Wife? Well, the film’s supposed to be a
sex comedy. And if that isn’t enough enticement, the lead is played
by the Pakistani, Henna Rehman. Double meaning dialogues and
titillation promised. We’ve seen her in I—Proud To Be An Indian.
Given the antecedents of the sizzling Paki Meera in Nazar,
could this be another skin flick?

Kick 'N
Box

Messing around with this Ms Norway is
fraught with danger, for kickboxing is her pastime. A computer
engineer, Mehek Chahal won a free ticket to Mumbai at a London
beauty pageant and stayed on. Modelling was her obvious choice.
After television commercials like Parachute hair oil, teleserials
and theatre followed. Then, she landed the life-transforming rgv
film Nayee Padosan. Next: Lead roles in Anjan and
Do. Bravehearts, she’s single.

Peace
Punch

Former heavyweight champion Evander
Holyfield, 42, looked at peace with himself and the world. He was in
India to promote a peace march to be held in New Delhi on October 2
by the US-based Global Peace Initiative. Even as he visited Rajghat,
there was a lot on his mind. The NY Athletics Commission had just
withdrawn his boxing licence citing diminishing skills and poor
performance. “Life itself is a fight but the main fight is for
peace. I’m here for peace,” he said.

Hurry Up,
Bidda

Here’s one from India’s export list.
Reggie Benjamin, the son of a Telugu pastor, he grew up in Chicago
rocking to Elvis Presley’s gospel numbers. His first single,
Hurry Up, bolted to the top five of the overseas dance charts in
over 24 countries weeks after its 2001 release. Ride
followed. A mainstream record company, Kerry Gordy Enterprises Inc,
recently signed him up. Carry on, bidda!

Elsewhere

It was almost like a bad scene from
Meet the Parents—two wealthy families meet to celebrate their
kids’ engagement but one set of parents knows nothing about it.
That’s the story of Paris Hilton vs Paris Latsis. In a huff, the
hotel heiress called it off.
